Eswatini’s commercial broadcasting sector entered a transformative decade this week after the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) officially awarded a Free-to-Air Commercial Radio Broadcasting Licence to Sakha Live FM.
The regulatory approval—issued alongside additional commercial licences—ends a ten-year pursuit by Sakha Live Media Group (SLFM) to break legacy monopolies and establish a new-era multimedia platform. Managed by industry strategist Melusi “Zox” Dlamini, the station’s entry marks a significant shift from traditional passive broadcasting toward interactive, digital-first content networks.
Responding to the announcement, Sakha Live Media Group Managing Director Melusi Zox Dlamini emphasized that introducing multiple commercial platforms benefits the broader economy by expanding media options for domestic and SADC corporate advertisers.

”We are incredibly honored, humbled, and excited by ESCCOM’s announcement. This is the culmination of a journey that began at least 10 years ago—a journey built on an unwavering conviction that Eswatini has room for a new generation of broadcasting,” Dlamini stated. “We warmly welcome the decision to award more than one licence. We believe this presents an exciting opportunity to diversify Eswatini’s broadcasting landscape, stimulate healthy competition, and create space for new voices.”
Rather than relying purely on traditional radio programming, SLFM is deploying an operational model designed to bridge content consumption with real-time economic access, including:
Sakha Live FM management affirmed that while FM airwaves will serve as the core transmission signal, digital platforms, livestreaming, and on-demand podcasts will serve as the commercial amplifier to capture cross-border listeners.
📈 THE SOURCE VERDICT
THE MACRO ANALYSIS: The licensing of Sakha Live FM represents more than an operational victory for a media house—it marks the structural modernization of Eswatini’s telecommunications and broadcasting sector. For years, static legacy platforms dominated radio ad-spend while younger demographics migrated to digital channels. By combining traditional FM reach with modern multimedia distribution, Sakha Live FM creates a competitive alternative for corporate ad-spend while offering local brands direct, real-time attribution.
THE VERDICT FOR CORPORATE LEADERS: As Eswatini’s media ecosystem diversifies throughout 2026, corporate marketing executives, brand managers, and agency media buyers must audit their allocation strategies. The entrance of dynamic commercial platforms means ad-spend can no longer remain tied to legacy channels out of habit. Success lies in aligning with agile, digital-first media hubs that capture high-intent consumer traffic across both traditional airwaves and digital networks.
